We are using only eco-friendly cleaning supplies and recycled materials for all the paper and glass that we use in the apartment. We have signed a special contract with the electric company to ensure that we use only electricity generated by wind and water – it costs a little more but we think it is worth it! Midtown West, Manhattan
Midtown West is a neighborhood in Manhattan, New York City that has such world-famous commercial buildings as Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, and the Empire State Building. Midtown also includes the new, revitalized Times Square and the Theater District, where world-famous Broadway productions wow audiences nightly. Midtown Manhattan is the busiest single commercial district in the United States. The great majority of the city´s skyscrapers, including most of its hotels and many apartment towers, lie within Midtown. Some areas, especially Times Square and Fifth Avenue, have massive clusters of retail establishments.
One of New York´s premier cultural destinations, The Museum of Modern Art at West 53rd off Sixth Avenue, offers a luxury after-hours series with guided tours, live piano music, and wine-tasting. The area is also known for some of Manhattan´s most highly rated restaurants, catering to affluent tourists and the high-powered business crowd
Here you can find the world famous Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Knicks and Rangers. The arena also host many concerts and events, so if your in the area check out the schedule. You will find Penn Station (LIRR and Path Trains) right below Madison Square Garden. Across the street is the NY Public Library. Most of the great Broadway theaters are near Times Square east and west of Broadway. Up around 57th Street you can find historic Carnegie Hall, said to have some of the best acoustics in the world. The Museum of Television & Radio is also in Midtown as is the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum and the American Craft Museum.
Known for its ethnic cuisine, the area attracts hungry theater-goers, particularly along ´Restaurant Row´ on West 46th Street.
Apartment surroundings
The Broadway Deluxe apartment is located on a quiet block right in the middle of downtown New York City, just 3 blocks away from the Empire State Building – one of New York’s most famous landmarks. Times Square is also just a 7-10 minutes walk away from the apartment. If you want to walk or watch a show on world famous Broadway – it is just 2 blocks away. Madison Square Garden – home to all of New York’s biggest concerts and events is less than a block away. So if you want to see a famous singer or artist, this is the right place for you. Who knows you might even spot them coming in or leaving after the concert. Also the famous James Farley Post Office building – the main post office building in New York - is occupying the entire next block – it is a famous landmark built in 1912. This building boasts the longest Corinthian colonnade in the world. So you can combine sightseeing with sending postcards to your relatives and friends from this famous place!
The apartment is located on the 34th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues – right on one of the best blocks in Manhattan. It is not as loud as most of New York streets and avenues, but is right there in the heart of Midtown where all the events take place such as the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade or the Times Square New Year’s celebration!
You have practically everything on your block – you do not need to go more than a few minutes on foot to eat any cuisine, withdraw money, buy electronics, get cell phone pay-as-you-go sim-cards, or even watch a show or a movie. Yes, all of this is actually located on your block. On the corner of 34th street and 8th Avenue you have HSBC bank, so you can withdraw money right there if you want to have some cash for your purchases in the city during the day. Right next door is one of the main New York movie theatres – AMC Loews, where you can watch whatever you want at any time, and actually at quite a reasonable price. You have a very nice inexpensive bistro right there where you can eat quickly, but not fast food, if you’re on the run. There are also a few famous NY chain restaurants such as Chipotle Mexican grill and Quiznos Sub. You have a McDonald’s, a TGI Friday’s and a Subway sandwich shop, as well as several Chinese restaurants, a pizzeria, an Indian restaurant, several steakhouses and pubs – so each day you can go to a different place. Even if you stay for more than a month and eat in a new place every day you will not run out of restaurants in this area! But if you want to cook yourself (you have everything in the apartment for that) than the closest place to buy ingredients for your cooking or just basic food for breakfast will be the deli right across the street or, if you want to buy all the ingredients and high quality organic food, you can go to one of the Whole Foods stores – the closest will be on 250 7th avenue, just a short walk away. Another nice thing is that right next door to your building entrance is the famous New York electronics store – B&H, it is the best (has anything you might ever need) and the cheapest store for all your electronics needs. On the corner of 34th and 9th there is an office of Ameritel where you can purchase a pay-as-you-go subscription if you wish to use a local mobile connection while in the US. There is also a Duane Reade pharmacy on the corner of 34th and 9th – it’s the largest New York pharmacy chain, so if there anything that you need to buy – it is 24-hours. And pharmacies in the US sell everything from food to umbrellas, so if you’re not sure where to find what you need – go to the pharmacy, and you’ll find it! And of course, shopping is one of things you should do while in New York, and Macy’s is just a block away. This New York Macys is actually the world’s largest department store – so be sure to put away the whole day (or two) for just shopping there. And a bit further away – on the corner of 39th Street and 5th Avenue – you have Lord & Taylor – another famous New York department store. You will definitely find sales!
The apartment’s location is really the best for any commute around the city or the entire country – no matter where you’re coming from. If you’re travelling by train, Pennsylvania Station is just one block away. You can arrive there or travel from there to anywhere in the United States. If you’re coming from the airport you can catch a bus from John F. Kennedy International airport and arrive to Port Authority which is about a 10 minute walk away from the apartment or you can catch one of the inexpensive New York taxis from there and pay just a couple dollars for a short ride. If you’re flying into Newark Liberty International airport you will most liekly use the PATH to get to the city from Newark. The PATH stop is just 2 blocks from the apartment. There are a huge amount of different subway stops right by your apartment – basically you can get to almost every subway in the city by just walking down 34th Street. Right on your block you have a stop of the ACE trains (blue line), one block away are the 123 trains (red line), and one more block along 34th street past Macy’s is the PATH and NQRW trains (yellow) and BDFV trains (orange) lines.
