The apartment is comfortable and cosy and even has a fireplace! The nicest part about the apartment is the view – it is not of skyscrapers, back alleys or brick walls but rather of a ballroom dancing studio which is situated right across the street. The view is very relaxing after a busy day in New York. The Empire State Suite and the other apartments managed by our company are the only environmentally-friendly serviced apartments in New York. We are trying to have as little impact on environment as possible – the apartment is not perfect yet but it is getting there. We are using only eco-friendly cleaning supplies and recycled materials for all the paper and glass that we use in the apartment. We have signed a special contract with the electric company to ensure that we use only electricity generated by wind and water – it costs a little more but we think it is worth it! We also try to use as much recyclable materials as possible. Nowadays everyone has to be thinking about the impact on our planet, and it’s the little things like this that start to make a difference. Midtown West, Manhattan
Midtown West is a neighborhood in Manhattan, New York City that has such world-famous commercial buildings as Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, and the Empire State Building. Midtown also includes the new, revitalized Times Square and the Theater District, where world-famous Broadway productions wow audiences nightly. Midtown Manhattan is the busiest single commercial district in the United States. The great majority of the city´s skyscrapers, including most of its hotels and many apartment towers, lie within Midtown. Some areas, especially Times Square and Fifth Avenue, have massive clusters of retail establishments.
One of New York´s premier cultural destinations, The Museum of Modern Art at West 53rd off Sixth Avenue, offers a luxury after-hours series with guided tours, live piano music, and wine-tasting. The area is also known for some of Manhattan´s most highly rated restaurants, catering to affluent tourists and the high-powered business crowd
Here you can find the world famous Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Knicks and Rangers. The arena also host many concerts and events, so if your in the area check out the schedule. You will find Penn Station (LIRR and Path Trains) right below Madison Square Garden. Across the street is the NY Public Library. Most of the great Broadway theaters are near Times Square east and west of Broadway. Up around 57th Street you can find historic Carnegie Hall, said to have some of the best acoustics in the world. The Museum of Television & Radio is also in Midtown as is the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum and the American Craft Museum.
Known for its ethnic cuisine, the area attracts hungry theater-goers, particularly along ´Restaurant Row´ on West 46th Street.
Apartment surroundings
The Empire State Suite apartment is located on a quiet block right in the middle of downtown New York City, just 3 blocks from the Empire State Building – one of New York’s most famous landmarks. The apartment is located between 6th Avenue (also known as Avenue of the Americas) and Fifth Avenue. Broadway – home to the world famous New York Theater District is just a 2 minute walk away. Broadway also has a pedestrian area in the middle of the street where there are chairs and tables in case you get tired of walking or want to just sit down for a while or enjoy your morning coffee. On the other side of the block is 5th Avenue where you have every shop and bank that you could ever imagine and if you walk just 3 little blocks up, you will be in front of the New York Public Library as well as Bryant Park. Bryant Park is one of the favourite areas of New Yorkers – it feels like oasis in the middle of skyscrapers. There is always something going on in Bryant Park: Jazz and Film festivals are just a few of the events that take place there. It’s a beautiful square park and even has its own reading room. Weather permitting, anyone can just come and take a book from one of the stands in the park and enjoy reading. There are tables and chairs there too, so you can also have a coffee or lunch. In summer many people just sit or lie on the grass in the park talking and spending time with friends.
On the block where the apartment is situated (37th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues) you can find anything and everything, you literally don’t have to leave the block if you don’t want to. You’ve got a great New York steakhouse right next door (Frankie and Johnny’s Steakhouse) where you can enjoy a great steak with a glass of wine. Just across the street you have the Magazine Café where you can get any magazine that you like (they even have foreign magazines!) and enjoy a coffee and a snack. On the corner of 37th Street and 5th Avenue one can find one of the most famous and cosy New York bakeries – Au Bon Pain, here you can get a good breakfast or lunch with freshly baked bread and pastry. You also have a lot of shopping on your block, as well as anywhere around you – you are in the heart of New York’s Fashion District!!!
There are 4 different banks on the corner of 37th Street and 5th Avenue, so you won’t have a problem withdrawing money for shopping! Also on the same block there is Verizon Wireless store in case you would like to set up a local cell phone connection while you are in the USA.
If you have come to New York for sightseeing – there is no better place: The Empire State building is just 3 short blocks away, Broadway is a block away from the apartment. You are about an 8 minute walk from Times Square and New York’s famous station Grand Central is just 5 blocks away. And if you don’t know where to spend the day, go to New York Macy’s (just 4 blocks from the apartment) – the world’s largest department store; lots of things are always on sale!!!
The Port Authority bus terminal is about 20 minutes by foot from the apartment – you can catch a bus from the airport right there at any time. You will probably prefer to catch one of New York’s inexpensive yellow cabs from the bus terminal to the apartment if you have a lot of bags. The ride should cost you about $5. So basically, you do not need a metro card with such a location – just walk, enjoy the weather, views and shopping.
If you need to use the Subway, you have at least 3 stations to choose from, each less than a 5 minute (3 short blocks) walk away. The first one is the 5th Avenue stop (7 train) located on the corner of 5th Avenue and 42nd Street. This subway line goes to Queens (La Guardia Airport) and starts at 42nd street. The second subway stop near you is 42nd Street – Bryant Park (B,D,F,V trains) which is right on the corner of 6th Avenue and 42nd Street. These subway lines go all the way up to the Bronx and in the other direction, go to Queens and Brooklyn. The third subway stop near you will be 34th Street – Herald Square (B,D,F,V,N,Q,R,W trains) which is located on the corner of 6th Avenue and 34th Street. Because this is one of NYC’s main subway hubs, it is easy for you to reach any destination in the city. NJ Path is also available from this station (you can catch a metro to New Jersey if you wish).
