TripAdvisor buys UK vacation rental website

TripAdvisor.com, the Newton-based travel review website, said it has acquired holidaylettings.co.uk., a vacation rental website in Great Britain, for an undisclosed amount.

In a press release, TripAdvisor said the acquisition continues its "expansion into the vacation rental marketplace, following the launch of vacation rentals on TripAdvisor in 2009, and the purchase of a majority stake in US-based FlipKey.com in 2008."

Holidaylettings.co.uk will continue to be operated as an independent site, TripAdvisor said.

"Our acquisition of Holiday Lettings significantly enhances the choice of fantastic vacation rentals available to the TripAdvisor community, particularly within Europe," Steve Kaufer, founder and chief executive of TripAdvisor, said in a statement.

With the deal, TripAdvisor Media Group now includes 17 travel brands and attracts nearly 46 million unique monthly visitors. TripAdvisor is an operating company of Expedia Inc.
